Run a side business? Jamvi keeps its money apart from yours

Many of us run a business on the side, or two, or three: a shop, a rental, a hardware branch. The business's money and our own cross paths every day, and most budgeting apps blur the two together. Jamvi keeps them apart with one simple rule: every shilling that leaves the business for you counts as your salary at that moment, wherever it goes.

When your pay never reaches your M-Pesa

Sometimes your pay goes straight from the business account to the supermarket, or to another of your businesses. On Money in, choose Salary from your business and answer Did it reach this account? No. Pick what it paid for, or the business you lent it to. Jamvi counts your salary for that day and records the spending or the loan with it. Your M-Pesa balance stays untouched, because the money never went through it.

Business accounts you reconcile elsewhere

If your business already reconciles its bank account, you do not need Jamvi checking that balance too. Open the account on Money and tap Don't keep this balance here, or switch it in Edit accounts. Payments out of that account can then say Paid from: my salary, and Jamvi counts them as your salary that day.

Built for how Kenyan businesses earn

Sales, rent or your own words. In My businesses, say what each one earns from: Sales, Rent, or your own words such as Commission. A rental then shows rental income wherever it used to say sales, and only that business shows it.

Costs that come off your salary. Repairs to a rental house should reduce what that business pays you, not count as household spending. Tick the categories once, and spending there comes off that salary from then on.

Every loan says where its money came from. Lend your salary to one of your businesses and Who owes who shows it plainly, for example Lent to Duka Traders, from Nyumba Rentals salary. When the business pays you back, the debt clears without being counted as income twice.

Profit you live on counts as income. A business you live on shows its profit with your other income, on All income and Year at a glance.

See your own money, not the business's.

Set up your businesses in Jamvi in a few minutes. Free for your first 90 days, then KES 250 a month or KES 2,500 a year.
